Beauty Queen of the week: Julie Crum, momgetshealthy.com
Tell me about yourself, I can’t wait for the audience to know you the way I do, what do you like to do in your free time and what is one of your hobbies?
I’m a stay-at-home homeschooling mom of four who also owns two businesses. One business is a traditional construction business while the other is a homebased health and beauty business. My homebased business is really my hobby! I started in when my twin boys were 1 year old to give me some grown up time once a week, a place where I could be Julie again instead of just Mommy. I adore being a mommy, but I was missing that – the time to be a grown up with other grown ups and share about something I love ~ helping women feel comfortable and confident in their own skin and helping them see
their own beauty. I mostly work from home, but I have built wonderful friendships through my business, and I’ve seen so many lives changed through my plant-based products. I’m passionate about God, family, homeschooling, adoption, prayer and helping others. All four of our children were adopted internationally, so we enjoy supporting other adoptive families, caring for orphans who can’t be adopted, and sharing our adoption
What are the three things that are most important to you?
3. Making the world a better place
Do you think it’s important to set goals and dream big dream?
Absolutely! I teach my children and my team members in my business – Goals and Dreams are VITAL! As Zig Ziglar said, “You hit what you aim at, and if you aim at nothing, you will hit it every time!” Success doesn’t fall into your lap. Dreams don’t just magically come true. We must work with God to set our goals, and then we must take action to move towards our goals and dreams. A dream without action will get you nowhere. I call my It Works team “Dream Catchers” because I want to inspire my team to not just CHASE
their dreams but to actually CATCH them!
What is your vision for your future?
I want to see my entire family used by God to make the world a better place. I believe every person can be used by God to bless the world, to bless the lives of others, to change the world for the better. I believe in the future we will partner with God in many ways to care for orphans, minister to others through prayer, and help others in many ways.
For me personally, I want to continue helping woman feel more comfortable and confident in their skin and see their own beauty. I also look forward to helping women catch their dreams through owning their own flourishing home businesses.
When did you know you were called to do this?
I think I’ve always known I was called to adoption and prayer. My family did a lot of work in orphanages and with foster children when I was growing up, and I always knew I would adopt. Now that I’ve seen how many children can’t be adopted due to their countries’ laws or issues with foster care, I see the need for orphan care and support of foster parents even more. Prayer has also always been a part of my life, but just in the last 8 years or so, I’ve really come to see the power of prayer and how I can minister to others through it. As an adult, I’ve always wanted to help other women see and appreciate their own beauty. This world sells us so many lies about beauty and what we have to look like to be beautiful. My business now allows me to help women bring out their own beauty, rediscover the beauty they already have. I love that! That’s all I focused on when I first started my health and beauty business, but then I would see these women who needed a new way to earn income. Some are single moms who were tired of being away from their families all the time, while others were moms who wanted to stay home with their children but needed to contribute to the family income. Yet others were single women or young marrieds who just wanted to make a little extra income but didn’t want to add the schedule and stress of working forsomeone else. The lightbulb went off for me at that point – I could help women own their time, too!
What were the defining moments in your life that helps you realize you’re calling and potential to change the world for the better?
When I was in college, I spent a summer doing mission and relief work in Africa. I had done several shorter term mission trips to inner cities in the US, to small towns that needed help, etc., but spending almost 3 months working with people in refugee camps, children in orphanages, etc. helped me see that I could make a difference, even just by helping one person at a time. That insight carried over into my adulthood and my passion for adoption. While we can’t adopt every child, the four we adopted are a huge blessing to us, and their lives are much different now than they would have been, and I know God placed them in our family for a reason. The same goes for all we do. Whether I help a single mom build an income or sponsor an orphanage in China or volunteer in the rescue mission in my town, each time I make a difference for one, I make the world a better place. Little by little, person by person, we can change the world!
Who is your greatest inspiration?
Jesus Christ. His willingness to sacrifice all to save us leaves me in awe. I’m amazed daily at the depth of His love.
Who has influenced you the most and what is the greatest lesson you learned from them?
My mother and father shaped my life greatly. My mom always taught me that I could be whatever I wanted to be, that my accomplishments were only limited by my determination. However, she also taught me to look to my natural strengths and nurture the gifts God gave me. Balancing those two concepts has allowed me to focus on what I love. My dad has always been a consistent, steady source of love and encouragement. His belief in my never faltered, and he’s always seen the best in me. That kind of belief does great things to help you believe in yourself.
What does being a beauty queen mean to you?
We all have our own unique beauty, and we find it when we stop comparing ourselves to others and start nurturing who we are, both spiritually and physically. True beauty comes from a soul that cares for others, and the beauty shines through. That’s the kind of beauty I want to always have – a beautiful soul that loves others and sees the best in them.
What inspires you to live with passion every single day?
I’ve seen the difference we can make in the lives of others.
How do you use that passion to make your dreams come true?
Having seen how following the dreams God planted in my heart to adopt, to help support orphans who can’t be adopted, to homeschool, to help other women ~ Having seen the lives that have changed because I said YES and took action, I am encouraged to keep moving toward these dreams.
What is a quote or saying that you live by?
“And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.” Colossians 3:17
Through the ups and downs of your life what is the greatest lesson that you have learned?
The greatest lesson I’ve learned is to trust God and depend on Him. During our first adoption, we had to wait 6 months to bring our son home from Guatemala. That was one of the most difficult times in my life, and learning to lean on God, to trust in His timing, is what got me through it.
What advice would you give the beauty queens reading this interview about following their dreams?
Find what gives you joy. Find the place where your talents and passion meet, and then take action to change the world. Don’t forget that each time you change one life for the better, you make the world a better place.
Love you all,
