Tell me about yourself! I am so excited to get to know you better and share with the audience what you’re passionate about! What do you like to do in your free time and what is one of your hobbies? I’m Elly Brown, I am mother of two boys and married to one incredible husband. I am passionate about Jesus, my family, and making the world a better place! In my free time, I am probably… who am I kidding I don’t have free time. Life is busy, but I wouldn’t have it any other way! Can I consider shopping a hobby? Haha if not then, I would say I do enjoy working out!
What are the three things that are most important to you?
Jesus, my family and coffee… Don’t know what I would do without them!
Do you think it’s important to set goals and dream big dreams?
Yes. Without a doubt! Not having a goal/dream is like walking about with a blind fold on and not knowing where you are going. When you have a dream or a goal, your options are a lot more narrow, making the right decisions easier.
What is your vision for your future?
I have many visions for my future.. but for the sake of time I will narrow it down for one personal and one for my business. For Uptown my vision is to be a voice of hope, a voice where I can be used by God. That everything Uptown does it will always be a reflection of him. A place for women to connect and form community together. For my personal life, my vision is to be old and gray and still married to my hunk, to see my kids married and with kids of their own.
When did you know you were called to do this?
To be honest, I don’t have a place and time where the light bulb went off. Several years back I knew I had the burden to love people the way Jesus loved. I’m just trying my best to love the way he has loved me and to let each women know she is fearfully and wonderfully made.
What were the defining moments in your life that helped you realize you’re calling and potential to change the world for the better? I can’t recall exact moments, but I know it’s always been a passion of mine. I have aways been the one to love on someone new or to make them happy or to put a smile on their face. As far as potential, greater is He that is in me than he that is in the world. I will be able to change the world by loving others with the love of God in me.
Who is your greatest inspiration?
My husband. He is strong, loving, and SUPER kind. But most of all he has so much patience … (something I don’t have much of). But his heart for people and for God is contagious.
Who has influenced you the most and what is the greatest lesson you learned from them? My mother. She has a heart of gold. Her love and compassion for others makes me irritated at times because I question how can she just turn the other cheek. Haha, seriously though, she has pushed me to see past the bad in people and to love them anyways.
What does being a beauty queen mean to you?
Being a beauty queen to me means knowing that beauty is not an outside thing, but something that comes from within. Someone who also knows how to put others before herself.
What inspires you to live with passion every single day?
Jesus, and making the world a better place and again letting each women, mom, or daughter know that she is beautiful. No matter her shape, size, or color of her skin.
How do you use that passion to make your dreams come true?
I know I keep saying the word love over and over again, but I feel like we are missing that so much in today’s world. We don’t know how to love each other. We are so quick to point and judge, but forget we have three fingers pointing back at us. I let the love of Christ (the love he has for me) fuel me to make my passions, dreams, and visions come true.
What is a quote or saying that you live by?
Live, Love, and Laugh.
Through the ups and downs of your life what is the greatest lesson that you have learned? That God never fails. I have had many set backs and trials, but God has ALWAYS revealed himself to me. His love and mercy are new every morning!
What advice would you give the beauty queens reading this interview about following their dreams? Stay true to you. Be you, the you that God made you to be!
